About CHI KUNG… Chi Kung (Qigong)
is a more than 5,000 year old Chinese health care system integrating
physical postures (moving & stationary), Chi Kung (Qigong)
is made up of two Chinese words: “chi” (qi)
pronounced “chee” and “kung” (gong) which rhymes
with lung. Chi translates as
the invisible energy that flows through all things in the universe,
including our bodies. Kung
means a skill cultivated through practice. Chi
Kung exercises are designed to activate chi energy and blood circulation in
the body, helping to stimulate the immune system, strengthening and
improving the functions of the internal organs, building stamina and
reducing stress. Chi Kung also
helps by re-establishing the body/mind/spirit connection. Historically, due
to the nature of Chinese society, Chi Kung practices were closely guarded
extended family, village, tribal and monastic secrets. These secret
movements, postures, breathing techniques, sounds and visualizations were
not shared with the outside world until the 20th century.
With the rising cost of health care and people seeking a more
holistic approach to health maintenance, the ancient practice of Chi Kung is
experiencing renewed interest worldwide.
